Mel's Cancer
21/05/2025 - Oncology Appointment
Page 11
Today Mel had an appointment with oncology, at Burton hospital. This is to discuss chemo treatment. Mel said she would have the chemo treatment, if it was required, also if it was not required, but offered. The only thing Mel was worried about, was we go on holiday in August, and was hoping that treatment would not clash with our holiday, as Mel is so looking forward to going away. If this was the case, we would cancel our holiday and go another time.
This was previously advised by Mr Vakis, as optional. Today we saw Dr Manjusha & Nurse Sarah, who told Mel if there was a 5% or more, of the cancer coming back, then chemo would be needed. In Mel's case, the percentage of the cancer coming back is 1% - 2%. Dr Manjusha advised chemo is not needed, and even if Mel was to have the treatment, the outcome would not be any different. The cancer that was removed, was at stage 2. The chemo would weaken Mel's immune system, leaving her vulnerable to infections. This would make Mel poorly while being on chemo. Dr Manjusha advised against the chemo, as it's not needed in Mel's case.
Mel will be monitored for the next 5 years, with blood tests, scans etc, until she gets the all clear.
